Stop Sex Trafficking

‘Weekend Toward Healing’ a Success

Through out this past September, churches and businesses in northern Colorado collected hygiene products to donate to Gracehaven House. Through the generous donations of businesses and individuals we were able to send them 280 lbs of health care need products!

Gracehaven is based out of Columbus, Ohio. They seek to provide shelter and rehabilitation to girls under the age of 18 who have been victims of commercial sexual exploitation. They also raise awareness among young women, about the issue of domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST), in order to educate and equip them so that they can avoid becoming victims themselves.

This event was held not only to assist Gracehaven with their practical needs; it was also a way of helping the community of northern Colorado to understand that the problem of sex trafficking is not just a problem in other countries. It helped open the eyes of some Americans to realize that the issues of sex trafficking are right here in our own back yard. It gave people an opportunity to actively do something about the problem.

Items donated to Gracehaven through this event included: soap, hair care products, hair dryers, tooth paste & brushes, feminine products, Kleenex, toilet paper, deodorant, mouth wash, lotion, face wash, shower caddies, hair brushes, razors, hair ties and various food products.

A generous donor, Terri, got her grandchildren involved with purchasing the items she donated.

“My awareness since participating (in the donation drive) has grown. I knew it (sex trafficking) was out there but had really no idea how bad it really is. When you don’t hear about it you don’t really know. Information about this issue is very important.”

Prior to the event, did you know that sex trafficking was predominant in the USA as well as other countries?

“I honestly did not think sex trafficking was that bad in my own country, how sad. I live in the greatest country in the world and we allow this to continue.”

How did helping out this cause make you feel?

“I had my grandchildren help with the shopping of the products for this cause. It made me feel good inside to help. Yet, it doesn’t seem like it was enough. I feel it is very important for more adults and children to become aware of causes they can contribute to; there but for the grace of God go I.”

Such giving and caring people donated to the Health Care Needs Donation Drive. What a great success. Thank you to each and every individual who took the time to recognize the need for help and then did something about it. You are making a difference for change in this world.

Taking action and stopping the demand are the keys to ending the problem of sex trafficking.

Wake People Up would also like to thank the businesses and church congregations who were so generous in helping with this event.

Florin, LTD donated the shipping of the products to Gracehaven. Cotney Peak donated their hand-crafted all natural soaps.   H. Arthur Missirlian, D.D.S donated a case of tooth paste and tooth brushes. The following are the locations where donation drop boxes were placed. People did a great job of spreading the word about this drive and many people jumped in to help out a worthy cause. Thank you for your help!

  1. John DeGraaf says:

This grass roots event helped raise awareness of the growing epidemic of sexual trafficking. It was a great way for people to get involved and have a positive impact in the lives of victims. Great job, and keep up the good fight!

“Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said:

'Wake up, sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.'”
